I am ahead of the game for the July swap at the Collage Stuff Yahoo Group. It's a Remarkable Women tag swap. I've always been fascinated by the art and life of Frida Kahlo. I used inventory tags from Collage Stuff and stenciled the background with Stencil Girl Stencils and acrylic paint. The "Frida" image is a stencil from the Crafter's Workshop. I made adjustments to the stenciled image, closing in some lines, adding white dots to the eyes, etc. I decided to color in the "Frida" image with Titan Buff acrylic paint and then went on to experiment with Distress Crayons on one of the images. The majority of the acrylics paints are from the Dylusions line. I added some Stickles glitter glue to the "necklaces." The paper flowers were colored to match using the Dylusions paints. I added sayings from Tim Holtz that I believe reflect on Frida's life. I had fun making these tags and experimenting!

Frida Tag
At the Collage Stuff Yahoo Group, the May swap is a Frida tag swap. This is my design. I started out with the smaller tag - stenciling color with Dylusions paint and stencils from various manufacturers. I added some glitter bead gel on the left side of the small tag using a leaf stencil. My plan was to add the Frida image in the die cut frame. The framed image was a little big for the tag, so I put the whole thing on a bigger tag. I gelli printed the big tag and overstamped it with a text stamp. The paper flowers were white so I painted them with the same yellow used on the small tag. The frame was also overstamped with the text stamp. I used versafine ink and it smeared a little on top of the painted die cut, but that's OK. The word and phrase are Tim Holtz stickers. Thanks for coming by my blog!

Faces Art Journal - Face 11
This is Face 11. Last night I had the face painted and I made weird hair. The weird hair had to go. When something doesn't go as planned, I'm usually pretty good at turning this "mistake" around. I don't like calling an art experiment that doesn't go as planned a "mistake". I believe that when something doesn't come out as planned that it's a challenge to turn into something that I like. So here's what I ended up with. I love Dali's women that have flowers for their entire head. I like to make hair out of flowers. The entire top of the page is the woman's hair. Sometimes I think she looks dark, but she's really got sort of a smirk. It makes me wonder what she's thinking. I am truly enjoying trying to learn to draw and paint faces. I don't want to make photo realistic faces - just interesting faces. I always say that I can't draw, but I'm learning. Thanks for coming by my blog
